Avoid these comments when you’re buying a home

Sometimes you need to keep a poker face when you’re buying a home. It’s not in your best interest to be totally candid with the seller and listing agent when you’re considering a home. Here a few things that are better left unsaid. “This is at the top end of our budget”: Don’t let the listing agent know that a home is at the top of your budget. You want to keep all the bargaining chips you can, and letting the seller know your budget can hurt you when it comes time to negotiate. “I hate the paint”: Or furniture. Or cabinets. Or any of the decor. No matter how hideous the wallpaper in the kitchen is, take care not to insult the seller’s taste. If they’re considering multiple offers, you don’t

Fast and Furious. A movie, yes, but also the way this Fall Market has kicked off. Finally inventory is up so buyers are seeing more choices. New listings are seeing visitors well before their Open House events on the weekend. One listing in our office went on market and in one day has 7 showings--and it wasn't even Friday yet. If you are in the market to buy, make sure you are working with an agent. Agents can help you get into a listing before the open house, find answers to the important questions upfront (HOA fees, disclosures, etc), and help you present an offer quickly so you are in a better position to get the home you want. There are a lot of opens this weekend. I am hosting one at 14

Five tips for first-time buyers

No matter how much time you spend on researching and educating yourself about your home purchase, it’s hard to cover every detail. Five places to inspect in your home

Our homes require regular maintenance, both to protect our personal safety and to avoid costly repairs. Here are five of the most important items you should check in your home. The fire extinguisher: It’s recommended that you keep at least one fire extinguisher on every floor. You should also keep one in the garage and in the basement. Staircases and banisters: A loose railing or banister could spell disaster. Regularly check your stairs and the accompanying railings to make sure they’re secure. Smoke detectors: Be diligent about testing your smoke alarms (and carbon monoxide detectors) and replacing batteries. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, smoke detectors should be t

Rest up, the Fall market officially kicks off on Tuesday. After a slow August, for listings that is, we should see a ramp up of listings to help buyers who've been out all summer looking for the perfect home. You may be spending this weekend by the pool, but I'd suggest you venture out to these opens to get an idea of what the market is offering. If I can help you, or any of your contacts, get a house listed during this Fall Market, give me a call or email at any time. Interest rates continue to remain low helping many get into that new home with easy.
