Envisioning Home

The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known #GivingTuesday, an international day of charitable giving to kick off the holiday season.

When thinking about who to give to, on this day or another day during the year, it's important to make sure the organization you give to is legitimate. Research the donation before you hit click and send to ensure your donation will go to a good and worthy cause and organization. It is also good to consider an organization that is important to you. Giving to a personal cause can make the giving so much more rewarding.

For me, the causes are numerous--from diseases that have affected my family, to boards that I sit on.  If you don't have a cause that is important to you, I share mine below. This giving season consider sharing your charitable heart with them!

Alzheimer's Association

My father, grandmother, uncle, and my sister's father-in-law have all been affected by dementia/ALZ. They report 5.7 million people are living with dementia/ALZ.

The Foye Belle Foundation

Started by a dear friend or a fear friend (during her struggle with breast cancer), The Foye Belle Foundation supports breast cancer patients with gifts and activities to get patients through the long hours of chemo.

Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park

This year, I joined the board of the Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park. If you've lived in DC for several year, you might remember what the park looked like before Judy Bonderman, Katharine Sullivan, and Ann Satterthwaite formed the Committee for Washington’s Riverfront Parks to encourage the National Park Service to see the potential for the Georgetown waterfront as national park.

Georgetown Village

Aging in place is important to many seniors. Through my volunteer work with The Village, I assist seniors with trips to doctor appointments, the grocery, and more. Additionally, The Village provides to its members important connections, programs of education, and events of socialization important to us all!
