Down on the Farm in Arlington
Working in real estate in the DC area, I get to work on a lot of amazing properties. This summer, I had the pleasure of helping my buyer clients purchase this amazing old farm house. Located within just 5 minutes of DC, this Arlington home is truly one-of-a-kind.
During the escrow period, the seller offered to walk the property with my clients so they could learn some of the history of the house. An unusual offer. We, of course, took them up on it!
During the tour, we learned that one of the previous owners was the owner of the general store that used to be next door. The store was in operation when the commuter railroad ran down what is now Lee Highway/ RT 29. The previous owner would often rent rooms in the house to players of the Washington Senators baseball team. They would stay on property and then commute into the games on the railroad.
While there have been some updates to the property over the years, so much of the original charm still exists--including that red metal roof.
In addition to the historic home, the property is full of wonderful plants and trees from a peach tree and numerous lilacs to lilies and purple cone flowers.
